Antanas Guoga, TONY G Elected to Lithuanian Parliament

Monday May 26,2014 : TONY G FROM POKER TO POLITICS (Update)

New people, new blood to Lithuanian politics

Lithuanian-born Antanas Guoga, better know in the poker world as the trash-talking Tony G, has reportedly been elected to a five-year term of office as one of the eleven Lithuanian members of the European Parliament .

An elated Guoga said: "For the first time Liberals have won two seats in the European Parliament. My sincere thanks go to all the voters, those who supported and helped me along the way!"

"Interestingly both [candidates] are not members of the Liberal party", reported The True Lithuania publication. "Instead they are popular figures who have been invited to improve the party's chances. Such tactics may have paid off this time as likely it was Guoga's popularity that gained the party its second seat, to be filled by a diplomat Petras Auštrevičius."

Guoga's Liberal Movement surprised many, exceeding expectations with 16.52 percent of the vote effectively making it the third largest political party in Lithuania.

"Today we made history in Lithuanian politics," said Guoga shortly after the final results were announced.
