Uk Gamblers To Get Faster Internet Broadband

UK ISP introduces a special broadband package

A UK Internet Service Provider is now offering a broadband package just for gamers, which prioritises their traffic for maximum accessibility and speed.

The provider, Demon Internet, has also set up direct networks with gaming companies to boost speeds, and promises lower latency, faster ping times, 24-hour UK-based support, 20MBits/sec downloads with 1Mbit/sec uploads and a higher usage cap than standard packages.

A company spokesman said that Demon's study of gaming-related activity had convinced it that the sector was a business in its own right, and that while paying a premium to get specific content streamed more quickly may concern net neutrality campaigners, Demon has the capacity to do this for its clients and has decided to do so.

Branded Game Pro, Demon's broadband will cost an additional GBP3 premium on the normal charge of GBP20 a month for serious gamers, online gamblers and other multimedia users.

Demon Internet manager Carl Warner told the publication PCPro this week: "What we're doing is putting gamers into a business grade network. Looking at the usage of gamers, it's actually more akin to a small business."

He said that with most playing action taking place in the evening, gamers will essentially be using up the idle capacity that Demon's business customers normally use during the day.

Off-peak, there will be no usage restrictions on Game Pro, but those who sign up to the package will be limited to 100GB a month between 8am and 11pm – which Demon said was double the top usage needed, according to gaming companies it had consulted.

Demon also has peering connections set up with gaming companies, so it can offer an even faster network for playing or downloading.

Warner noted that the benefits of using the new package applied to any multimedia streaming. "I guess you could call it more a multimedia broadband connection," be said.
