UK GAMBLING BILL GETS FINAL APPROVAL BY HOUSE OF LORDS

Wednesday March 19,2014 :   UK GAMBLING BILL GETS FINAL APPROVAL BY HOUSE OF LORDS

Progresses to the Commons

The House of Lords addressed the third reading of the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill Tuesday, giving it a final chance to ‘tidy up' the bill and make changes.

A Government amendment to extend the horserace betting levy scheme to offshore bookmakers, was discussed along with the Government's pledge to develop wider levy reform options which will be consulted on later in the year.

Other topics under discussion included whether the bill would lead to an increase in advertising driven by online providers based outside the UK, to which the government confirmed that it was undertaking a review of existing advertising arrangements and would call for submissions at a later stage.

The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill now moves to the House of Commons for consideration of the Lords' changes.
