WatchAndBet Drops Live Football

Sunday, July 22,  2012 :  PERFORM DROPS TELEVISED FOOTBALL RIGHTS

WatchAndBet.tv will no longer carry Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1 content

Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1 content will no longer be carried in the UK by Perform's WatchAndBet online television service following an announcement by the British digital sports media specialist that it will not be renewing the television rights next season.

The rationale for the decision is that the service already carries around 13,000 live events around the clock, with more new content in the pipeline.

“The content costs saved by this decision will be allocated to the acquisition of new rights across the business,” the company said in a statement this week.

Asia apparently has more appeal for the service; the announcement also reveals that the company has renewed a content agreement involving some 650 Asian football matches a year for the next five years.

Oliver Slipper, Perform's joint chief executive said: “Our focus is to provide content to our customers 24-hours a day, 365 days a year and this Asian football renewal and recent rights deals with the WTA, Wimbledon and South American football shows our commitment to this.”
