WPT unveils Alpha8 Global High-Roller Series

The World Poker Tour has big plans for a new live tournament that will be televised on Fox Sports next year.

Titled "Alpha8" the new offering will be a high roller affair broadcast internationally, with several $100,000 buy-in events.

Florida will see the first outing of Alpha8 on August 26 at the Seminole Hard Rock Open. Four-hour shows highlighting the action will begin airing on Fox Sports 1 starting in March, 2014, says WPT president, Adam Pliska

"Playing out over a global stage, this series will give audiences insight into the intensity and skill demanded at the sport’s highest levels,” he added, revealing that tournament structures will be designed by WPT Tour Director Matt Savage, and Lynn Gilmartin will serve as the show's anchor.

Recorded episodes of WPT Alpha8 events will air on Sundays at 10 pm ET with in-depth coverage of all the play down to the final table.

Fox Sports 1 vice president of programming David Sussin said: “WPT Alpha8 will be a key part of our primetime line up and a tremendous complement to our other sports programming including MLB, NASCAR, UFC, soccer, and college basketball and football."
