W.S.O.P'S COLOSSUS ATTRACTING A HUGE FIELD
Organisers report that over 14,000 entrants have already signed up.
The World Series of Poker's new $595 buy-in Colossus event appears likely to live up to its name; WSOP officials revealed Thursday that more than 14,000 players have already signed up for the Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 starting flights.
Executive director Ty Stewart used Twitter to make the announcement, emphasising that there was still plenty of room in the event (WSOP advised earlier this week that the Rio can seat up to 24,200 at a push )
The level of interest indicates that the $5 million guaranteed prize pool will be substantially over-subscribed, making for bigger prizes and more cashes. And Colossus players can re-enter up to four times.
Colossus is almost certainly set to create a new record in event fields at WSOP; the present record is 8,773 players who entered the 2006 Main Event.
Elsewhere at the Rio, the first of this year's WSOP events – the $565 buy-in Casino Employees NLHE competition attracted 688 entrants, creating a prize pool of $344,000. When we went to press the field was down to 261 survivors.
