World Series of Poker Europe main event

Monday, October 17, 2011 : BUMPER DAY 1A FOR WORLD SERIES OF POKER MAIN EVENT

The big boys come out to play in Cannes

With one more starting flight still uncounted, it looks as if entries into this year's Euro 10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker Europe main event are set to break records in Cannes, France.

A slew of big names were on the 310-name registration list for Day 1 A, including Phil Hellmuth and Tom Dwan (neither of whom survived), Johnny Chan, Carlos Mortensen, Chris Moorman, Hoyt Corkins, Sean Getzwiller, Jon Turner, Ryan D’Angelo and Arnaud Mattern.

Among other top players who joined Hellmuth's retreat to the exit were Justin Bonomo, Jason Mercier, Tom Dwan, and November Niner Anton Makievskyi.

173 players managed to make it through the first day.

In other events, Michael Mizrachi and Philippe Boucher won bracelets.

The Euro 10,000 buy-in Split Format competition delivered Mizrachi's second WSOP bracelet, and his Euro 336,008 prize for besting 125 other players brought his career earnings to well over $11 million.

Canadian pro Boucher was victorious in the Euro 1,620 buy-in Six Max PLO, taking home his first WSOP bracelet and the main prize of Euro 124,584 after defeating Michel Dattani in the heads up.
