1/20/2012 :  Blazing the acquisition trail but branching out into alternative sectors

Social gaming giant Zynga Inc. has reportedly been on the mobile gaming acquisition trail with the purchase of four mobile game development companies in less than six months in an effort to expand its presence in the popular smart phone and tablet sector.

David Ko, Zynga's mobile executive, told Reuters it had acquired Gamedoctors the German-based developer of the hit mobile game "ZombieSmash".

The company also bought the San Francisco-based games companies Page44 Studios who developed the iOS platform game "World of Goo" as well as mobile technology firm HipLogic.

Completing the quartet was the purchase of New York-based games development company Astro Ape Studios, the creators of "Mosterz Revenge", a free-to-play iOS social game.

The terms of the deals and considerations paid for the four companies were undisclosed but bring to over twenty the number of acquisitions since Zynga's inception four and a half years ago.
