Matthew Hilger, poker author, poker publisher, and poker pro, won the Full Tilt Poker $750 000 Guaranteed Poker Tournament over the holiday weekend, pocketing over $132 000 for his first placing. The win topped an rewarding tournament record this year, with 9 entries that yielded 3 top 100's, 2 final tables, and finally the big win.
Hilger now has his eyes set on the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP), where he has cashed three of the last four years in the main event and nine times overall.
Hilger became closely associated with Internet poker when he released his best-selling book, 'Internet Texas Hold'em'. Following the book, he created an online community, visited poker forums and read strategy articles to get exclusive poker bonuses. Hilger is a contributing writer to Card Player Magazine, has been featured in magazines and periodicals including the Wall Street Journal, All-In, and the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, and serves on the board of directors for Colombianitos, a charity that helps disadvantaged children in Colombia.
This year will hopefully see the release of several new poker books, and the development of websites from his company Dimat Online.
When asked if this would affect his WSOP plans, the energetic poker pro said, "I definitely feel more ready than I ever have [been] as I have played a lot more online in the past year so I won't be rusty going into the WSOP.
