Phillip Hui bests a field of 457 to claim main prize of $286,976.
 
Texas grinder and World Series of Poker Circuit ace Phillip Hui has realised one of his big ambitions – winning his first WSOP bracelet – by taking down event 59, a $3,000 buy-in Omaha Eight-Or-Better competition after besting a field of 456 other players.
 
Remarkably, at one stage in the heads up, Hui was at an 18 to 1 chip disadvantage, a situation that most players would have found untenable…but he persevered, showing considerable grit and talent to claim victory in the end and the $286,976 main prize.
 
The four-ring Circuit veteran faced a tough final table that included Jordan Morgan, Matt Glantz, David Williams, John D’Agostino, Ismael Bojang and fellow WSOP Circuit ring holder Zachary Milchman.
 
By the time play reached three-handed it was a competitive struggle between Hui, Milchman and Michael Bess, with the lead switching from one to the other until Bess as eliminated and Milchman entered the heads up with a 6 to 1 lead, which he extended at one stage to 18 to 1.
 
However, there was no stopping the big comeback Hui pulled off, and he secured the win.
