Saturday afternoon Las Vegas time at the World Series of Poker main event saw 291 survivors from an original field of 6,683 file in and take their seats in the Amazon Room at the Rio for Day 5 action.
 
Matthew Haugen (2,808,000) led the chip counts, followed by Zach Jiganti (2,364,000), and a much reduced field that still included some high profile and dangerous poker players like Dan Smith, Griffin Benger, Leif Force, Martin Jacobson, Matt Waxman, Jared Bleznick, Rep Porter, Mukul Pahuja, Bryan Devonshire, Maria Ho, Jeff Madsen, David Einhorn, Scott Palmer, 2013 November Niner Mark Newhouse, Vitaly Lunkin and Bruno Politano.
 
By 8.10pm Vegas time a further 195 players had been eliminated and former November Niner Mark Newhouse was at the top of the chip counts on 8.3 million, with just 96 players still standing and average chip stacks at 2,088,438.
 
Chasing Newhouse hard were Scott Palmer on 5,950,000, Bruno Politano – 5,820,000 and Dan Smith – 5,450,000, with Leif Force, Tony Ruberto, Clayton Maguire, Clayton Hamm, Kyle Keranen and Andoni Larrabe a little further back in the top stacks.
 
The next player to go out will be in the 91 to 99 level of the pay-out structure and will take home $61,313.
