2016 Unibet Open London main event results

Tuesday, March 8, 2016 : U.K. POKER PRO WINS UNIBET OPEN LONDON MAIN EVENT

David Shallow GBP 62,000 wealthier after besting a field of 418.

David Shallow, a soon-to-be-father and poker pro active in the UK live tournament environment, is GBP 62,000 wealthier today after taking down the GBP 825 buy-in Unibet Open London main event despite determined competition from 417 other entrants.

The young Englishman brought his career live tourney earnings to just short of half a million pounds with the victory after a series of high value wins in recent years, including The Dublin WPT for Euro 222,280 in 2012 and the UKIPT Nottingham High Roller in 2014 for GBP 68,000.

Shallow started around the middle of the final table chip counts, but two hours and as many eliminations later he had played himself into a strong chip position, which be managed to largely maintain and improve as the competition progressed.

When be eliminated French pro Nicolas Cardyn at third for GBP 28,190, Shallow faced countryman Bhavin Khatri in the heads up holding a significant chip lead that Khatri was unable to challenge despite a valiant effort.

Khatri busted out to take home the runner up prize of GBP 42,500 – not a bad return for his satellite-subsidised investment of GBP 100 to enter, leaving Shallow with the trophy and the lion's share of the cash.

Other final table cashes included:

Julien Rouxel France GBP 21,005
Mate Mecs Hungary GBP 15,770
Benjamin Lebor UK GBP 12,670
Akos Gergely Hungary GBP 10,540
Nicolas Ludwicki France GBP 8,400
Jin Hui China GBP 6,300
