ONLINE POKER PLAYER BLEW GBP 25 000 OF DAD’S CASH

5/29/10 – A 21-year-old in the UK blew GBP 25 000 in three months after gaining access to a check book for his father’s engineering firm, the Greenock Sheriff’s Court was told this week.

Blair Robertson admitted that had forged his father’s signature to go on a three month spending spree that saw him take holidays, buy a car and play plenty of online poker, reports the Greenock Telegraph.

"I was stupid. I was just having a good time. I went on a couple of holidays and bought a car. I told my dad I was paying up the car. I had 17 casino cards, and played online poker, [betting] GBP 1 000 at a time, Robertson said.

"I probably gambled most of it. The money was spent in three months."

Robertson forged 10 cheques in all, cashing them at a bank in Gourock.

He said: "It was my dad's engineering company – I found the company cheque book and started forging cheques. I didn't think the money would be missed.”

In what is probably the understatement of the week, he added: "My mum and dad were really disappointed."

Robertson was fortunate to evade jail, and was sentenced to 150 hours of community service. He has since signed the car over to his father and is trying to make amends by doing household chores.
