Ben Sulsky Hits Blom Hard

January 10, 2013 : SULSKY COMEBACK ON HIGH STAKES ONLINE POKER TABLES

Blom's heater (temporarily?) runs out of steam

It's been an incredible introduction to 2013 for poker pro Viktor Isildur1 Blom, who has earned $4.1 million in just over a week, crushing some of the best players around on the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker.

But at some point there had to be a dip, and that occurred Wednesday when Blom took a half-million dollar bankroll to the $400/$800 PLO virtual tables and lost a chunk of it to his main opponent, Ben Sulsky in an epic 5.5 hour encounter.

It was sweet revenge for Sulsky, who had lost large amounts of money to Blom – most recently $743,000 – as he rode his monumental heater. Over the 5.5 hours of intense action, around 30 six-figure pots were developed, with the number of $200,000 pots going into double digits. The biggest pot of the day – $303,700 – went to Blom.

Sulsky recovered $392,800 from his Swedish opponent, whilst Blom was down overall on the day by $509,000 after losing some triple draw clashes as well.

From Sulsky’s perspective it was not money easily won; HSDB reports that at one point just before the sudden and brutal downswing in his fortunes, Blom was up around $350,000.

The fact that he had conserved the bulk of his overall winnings for another day suggests that Blom's ‘boom or bust' playing philosophy has been wisely modified by bitter experience, although the young Swede remains an aggressive and dangerous player.

Sulsky will be relieved to have recovered some of the $1.1 million he has handed over to Blom this year.

The two players agreed to meet again on the tables without settling on a firm date and time, but an early return session is expected.
