Tennis Odds: Bouchard Favored in Charleston Despite Green Clay

Tennis Odds: Bouchard Favored at Family Circle Cup

This week’s WTA Premier stop is Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina, which is home of the Family Circle Tennis Center. This court features the only green clay surface on the women’s circuit. The 43rd running of the Family Circle Cup is already underway, and as we go to press, Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard is the 6/1 favorite to win the event. Andrea Petkovic follows her at 7/1.

As the top seed in the tournament, Bouchard was given a bye into the second round, where she was scheduled to face Lauren Davis (+300) Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM ET. Bouchard is a rising star on the circuit, having reached the finals at Wimbledon in 2014. She’s now No. 7. Davis is ranked No. 66 in the world, having peaked at No. 43 last July. In their only other meeting thus far, Bouchard won 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 32 at the 2014 Australian Open.

Petkovic, the World’s No. 11, is returning to form after injuries derailed her career in 2012. She reached the semifinals at the 2014 French Open; her baseline approach is best suited to clay, while the quick and aggressive Bouchard generally prefers the hardcourt.
