MAJOR CHINESE CROSS-BORDER ONLINE GAMBLING BUST
 
Online gambling ring believed to have generated US$48 million since early 2015.
 
Chinese police in east China’s Jiangsu Province have brought down an online cross-border gambling ring, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
 
According to China’s Ministry of Public Security, 36 suspects were arrested, of which twenty-one were arrested in the Philippines with the collaboration of Philippine judicial authorities.  China’s National Audit Office discovered the operation in early 2015, with preliminary investigations detailing around US$ 48 million changing hands since that time.
 
Six unnamed gambling websites were shuttered and computers, bank cards and cellphones seized in coordinated raids in Chongqing, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangsu and Sichuan provinces, the Ministry said in a statement.
