Danish regulated gambling sites grew 40 percent over the last 2 years

Spillemyndigheden reports that wagering on Danish regulated gambling sites grew 40 percent over the last 2 years.
 
The Danish online gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden reported this week that growing numbers of Danish gamblers are using its licensed sites, with wagering up 40 percent over the past two years.
 
One the reasons given for the popularity of online gambling is that licensed sites have become more efficient at providing "instant gratification."
 
HC Madsen, the head of one time monopoly Danske Spil, told the publication DR Nyheder:
 
“You play and quickly see if you have won, and you want the prize immediately.”
 
He added that Danish internet and mobile punters now have a wider choice of different types of gambling, ranging from bingo through casino gaming to sports betting.
 
In sports betting especially, players can bet on a wide choice of sports and even on incidents within those sports, Jacob Hansen, a gaming expert working for the publication Tipsbladet said, noting:
 
“Today you can place more than 100 wagers on a single match while it is in progress.”
 
Danske Spil lost its gambling monopoly three years ago, and today there are 29 different companies licensed to operate casino games, and 15 permitted to offer sports betting, The Copenhagen Post reports.
 
However, Danske Spil remains the market leader, although profits suffered from the competition and dipped 5.8 percent y-o-y in 2014.
 
Official 2014 figures from Copenhagen-based Spillemyndigheden show that betting generated GGR of Danish kronor1.78 billion (2013: DKK1.385 billion); online casino GGR reached DKK1.075 billion (2013: DKK990 million); and games with commission was down at DKK170 million (2013: DKK195 million).
 
Total GGR reached DKK2.855 billion (2013: DKK2.375 billion).
