EuroMillions Lotto Jackpot Hit By British Player

GBP113 million ($183 million) scooped in Euromillions jackpot

Making headlines around the world over the weekend is the news that an at present unknown British player hit the Euromillions lottery jackpot on Friday night for the biggest single lottery win in Brit history at GBP113 million ($183 million).

Alison Baldwin, a spokeswoman for the Camelot Group, which operates the UK National Lottery, said the Euromillions ticket could belong to an individual or a syndicate, but the winner or winners have not yet come forward to claim the prize. The odds of winning the money were just over 76 million to one, she added.

Despite its magnitude, the prize is not the largest ever Euromillions win; a young Spanish woman holds that record from a hit in May this year . And in the United States, in 2007 two tickets split a $390 million (GBP258million) payout from Mega Millions, although unlike the UK, lottery prize money is taxable in America.

The previous record for Britain's biggest lottery win was GBP 84.4 million. Before that, Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, from Gloucestershire, held the record, scooping GBP 56 million in February 2010.

The winning Euromillions numbers were 9, 30, 35, 39, 46, with lucky stars 6 and 8.
