DDOS Attack vs Favbet

Wednesday December 30,2015 : D.D.O.S. ATTACK MARRED CHRISTMAS BUSINESS FOR FAVBET

Online sports betting operator claims a competitor is responsible for almost week-long halt in operations.

Christmas business was seriously dislocated for sports betting operator Favbet following a Distributed Denial of Service attack that took down the website for the best part of a week over the festive season.

The assault allegedly started whilst Favbet was skeleton-staffed due to a company event, and was savagely ruthless and efficient, quickly destroying both the main and back-up databases of the company.

Chief operating officer Sergei Efimenko told Russian industry media that the hackers are currently unknown, and that Favbet had managed to survive the attack due to its strong defences.

However, the attackers additionally managed to re-direct Favbet's domain, re-routing users to a Ukrainian government website, and access the bookie's mail servers, using their control to send rude messages.

On the positive side, Efimenko assured Favbet users that their personal information and account balances remain unharmed and protected, because the hackers appeared more intent on damaging the company than its punters.

This, the absence of ransom demands, and other evidence that has not yet been disclosed, have persuaded Efimenko that the attack was probably launched by a competitor, but he did not elaborate further.
