GTECHG2 IN ROMANIAN LAND DEAL

6/11/10 – Online gambling software provider GTechG2 has landed an initially land gambling deal in Romania that could give it an edge in future interactive business opportunities.

After only three months in development, the Lottomatica subsidiary has installed its end-to-end sports betting solution in the first of four hundred Bet Arena Cafe retail outlets in Bucharest, Romania.

A company statement notes that deal includes a provision for first refusal on the supply of interactive sports betting as well as the other products in the GTechG2 interactive portfolio. In the Bet Arena Café retail outlet agreement, GTechG2 Sports Betting is providing a full range of sports betting solutions and services including the MarginMaker platform, and professional services  such as sports betting operations, odds compilation, risk management and marketing support).

The management team behind Bet Arena Cafe has a legacy of successful ventures in the Romanian retail space and will manage the network of shops.

The roll out plan will bring the total Bet Arena Cafe betting shop estate to 400 retail outlets by the end of 2012. The betting offer will be focused around football but will include all major European and US sports and will benefit from GTech’s live ‘in play’ betting.

“Romania has long been viewed as a key Eastern European territory for Lottomatica Group and GTechG2,” said GTech G2 president Paulo Personeni. “I am delighted that we now have a strong partner and presence in this rapidly growing market.

“GTechG2 has worked closely with the Bet Arena Cafe management team over the last six months to create the 1×2 Bet Cafe Arena brand. I firmly believe that Bet Arena Cafe’s experience in the Romanian retail sector coupled with our proprietary sports betting market solutions and services expertise, will enable us to hit our aggressive roll out and market share targets.”

Bet Arena Café is owned by Romanian billionaire Dinu Patriciu who is opening Bet Arena Cafés alongside his Mic.ro Retail food stores in Bucharest and throughout the country in a bid to dominate the Romanian sports betting business, which is estimated to be worth more than Euro 200 million per year.
