West Bengal chief minister stops "Online Lotto" in its tracks
 
Citing "the creation of social problems", West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has slapped a ban on the internet lottery enterprise "Online Lotto".
 
Speaking to Indian Express reporters in Kolkata, Ms. Banerjee said an official notification would be issued soon, but that the lottery had created social problems and would no longer be allowed to operate.
 
She said that the lottery had been introduced by the previous Left Front government in the province, and had led to family strife and disputes.
 
Banerjee said that objectors to her decision could resort to the courts to challenge the ban if they wished.
