02/28/2012 :  RAHME TAKES DOWN WORLD SERIES OF POKER AFRICA TITLE

Local player takes home the $158,595 main prize

Monday saw a local player, Joe-Boy Rahme, win the $3,300 buy-in World Series of Poker Africa main event after surviving an enthusiastic field of 218 hopefuls that included several top international aces like Mark Vos, Scotty Nguyen and Warren Zackey, last year's champ.

Rahme, a Johannesburg-based professional player, faced some solid competition on a final table that included Ivan Pakkiri, Jason Straus, James Parker, Gregory Ronaldson, Marc Joseph, Brad Flynn, Matt Mulhall and Brian Bouwer.

The departure of Jason Strauss in third set up the heads up between Rahme and Ivan Pakkiri, with Rahme holding a substantial enough chip lead to ensure it was a brief confrontation of just a few minutes.

Rahme collected a cheque for $158,595 and a WSOP Circuit ring, leaving his opponent with a consolatory runner up prize of $98,012.
