Prosecutors allege "LaScala Crew" links to organised crime
Federal prosecutors have revealed that a key member of the LaScala Crew in New Jersey, which was busted last year on online sportsbetting charges, John "Fu" Breheney, pleaded guilty Thursday to racketeering conspiracy and tax evasion charges.
49-year-old Breheney has agreed to forfeit $400,000 for his part in the ring and will be sentenced later this year.
He was one of 12 individuals arrested in May last year and charged with conspiring with individuals who owned and operated an offshore website to run an illegal gambling business that operated in northern New Jersey and elsewhere. High-level associates of the LaScala Crew, such as Breheney, acted as “agents” for the business
