Lithuania Gambling Law amendments

Amendments contravene European Court of Justice ruling. Lithuania has notified the European Commission of proposed Online Gambling Law amendments that exclude participation from foreign operators who do not have a registered and established presence in the country in contravention of a European Court of Justice ruling.

The Government claims that the current law does not “clearly establish that entities which have the right to organize betting may organize said services through means of communication, DLA Piper reported in a recent blog post.

“Currently, de facto betting through means of communication has become widespread practice and entities organizing games of chance in this manner that do not obtain licences for doing so, as required by the provisions of the Republic of Lithuania Gambling Law, are thus acting illegally under Lithuanian gaming law”, the notification says.
