Wednesday May 7,2014 : SULLIVAN LEAVES WILLIAM HILL AUSTRALIA (Update)

Amicable parting of the ways, say both parties

Veteran Michael Sullivan has stepped down as chief executive officer of William Hill Australia-owned Sportingbet.com.au after more than a decade

According to a joint statement, “It was always agreed that we would mutually review the situation after the first year and having overseen the integration, both William Hill and Michael believe the time now is right for him to pursue other challenges.”

The statement praised the pivotal role Sullivan had played in developing the corporate bookmaking industry in Australia, while Sullivan said he was satisfied with the move and with his time at Sportingbet: “They’re a great company and I wish them all the best. All parties are happy.”

James Henderson, group director of operations for William Hill will temporarily step in as chief executive officer as the company seeks a replacement.

Speculation over the past two weeks predicted a similar announcement from chief operating officer Anthony Waller, but for now the rumour mill is speculating on where Sullivan will pop-up next, many predict he will be in demand from the likes of Easybet or Betfred, both making in roads into the Australian market.
