Monday September 24,2012 : DANISH PRO TAKES DOWN ENGLISH POKER OPEN

GBP 78,660 pay day for Petersen

The Pokerstars English Poker Open 2012 title fell to Danish Pokerstars pro Mickey Petersen over the weekend, boosting his bank balance by a healthy GBP 78,660.

Petersen triumphed over an entry field of 138 that included names like Praz Bansi, James Akenhead, James Dempsey, Sam Trickett, Liv Boeree and the 2010 champion Fabian Quoss in the main event, which was held at London's Fox Poker Club.

The GBP 2,180 buy-in competition featured two kick-off flights, a 20,000-chip starting stack for each player, 60-minute clock and a tempting GBP 250,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The final table comprised Petersen in the middle of the chip counts, along with Chris Bjorin, Surinder Sunar, Jamie Roberts, Nicola Lategano, Ben Jackson, Niels Ladefoged, Thomas Laumier and Igor Kurganov, from which Petersen emerged with an almost five-to-one chip lead over his final opponent in the heads up, the more experienced and Poker Hall of Fame nominee Bjorin.

Despite a determined fight from Bjorin that included some impressive double ups, the lead was too great for the veteran to survive, and he was dispatched to the cashier for a runner-up prize of GBP 49,690.
