AL East Still Up For Grabs With Three To Play

Tuesday October 2, 2012 :  AL East Still Up For Grabs With Three To Play

After 159 games played for both teams, there is not one win to separate the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles heading in to the final week of the season. The Yankees and Orioles are tied for top spot in the American League East with three games to play, even though New York’s plus-115 run differential dwarfs the plus-11 mark that Baltimore has registered so far this season.

The division title will come down to three games for both teams this week, with the Yankees in Boston to play the Red Sox and the Orioles in Tampa Bay for three against the Rays. The loser of the division race is already guaranteed at least a playoff spot with a minimum 92 wins each, but that won’t slow down either team from chasing its goal.

Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers are now both one game away from clinching their respective divisions, with the Tigers set to take on the Kansas City Royals and the Rangers matched up against an Oakland Athletics’ team that needs one win to clinch the final Wild Card spot, but it still three back of Texas for the division lead.
