Nevada Drafting Regulations for Online Poker

01/11/2012 : ANOTHER STEP FORWARD IN NEVADA AS TESTING AGENCY REGS ARE DRAFTED

Approved agencies will be authorised to test in Nevada licence applications

In another step forward in the legalization of online poker in Nevada, the state's gaming control board has announced that work has started on drafting supplementary regulations and requirements for the accreditation of private testing agencies.

Certificates issued by approved agencies will be accepted as supporting documents in applications for online poker licenses in the state.

Nevada is among the leaders in legalization moves; last year the state governor signed into law an intrastate poker legalization measure, and this has been progressed by a consultative process and drafting program that has produced the requisite regulations for the implementation of a licensing regime this year.

The refined regulations will soon be submitted to the Nevada Gaming Commission for final approval, and there have already been several licence applications from major industry companies.

Industry observers have noted that accrediting reputable testing agencies is a smart move, guarding against regulatory abuse by introducing a balance of interests, and at the same time enabling the licensing process to be accelerated.

Nevada's plan is to have the testing agency regulations and requirements ready by May 1 2012 in order for interested testing laboratories to submit applications. Officials report that there is already significant interest from various independent and private agencies.

The process has a way to run yet; drafters will have to come up with precise definitions, requirements and rules covering everything from software and equipment to operational processes and international standards.
