NJ COURT GRANTS REVIEW ON SPORTSBETTING BILL

Thursday October 15,2015 : NJ COURT GRANTS REVIEW ON SPORTSBETTING BILL (Update)

Long-running court battle takes another twist.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has ruled in favour of a review before a full bench of judges on a decision made by a three-member panel back in August which denied the expansion of sports betting at casinos and racetracks in New Jersey. This latest court decision was initiated by the pro-sportsbetting New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association who joined State Governor Chris Christie and the state legislature in filing a motion in early September .

The petition for a rehearing questioned the validity of the previous decision saying it was “precisely the opposite” of previous court rulings that said on the one hand that New Jersey could repeal anti-sportsbetting laws and on the other that a repeal would violate Federal law.

The long-running case opposing the expansion was initially filed by various sports associations after New Jersey politician’s legalised sports betting in 2012.
