A craps game starts with the first roll of the dice, which is known as the come out roll. If the shooter, the person rolling the dice, rolls a seven or an 11 it is an automatic win. The shooter will also be allowed to engage in another come out roll. If the shooter shoots a two, a three, or a 12 then he will “craps out” or he loses the game. He will be able to keep the dice for another come out roll. If the shooter rolls any other number than already mentioned, the number becomes his or her point.
Now you want the shooter to avoid getting the seven that would make them a winner in the first part of the game. The reason for this is that after the come out roll the shooter will be trying to roll that same point number again before they roll a seven. If they roll a seven first, they lose the game instantly.
There are many different bets to make such as the outcome of the dice roll. In some games you win or lose dependent upon these bets but in other games they are very specific. Generally speaking, the more specific bets will payout higher. Many people who are learning how to play craps want to jump right into the more complex bets, but you should avoid doing this. The reason is that the more complex bets give the house even more of an advantage.
The basic bets you should know of include the pass line bet. What this means is that you’ll be betting for a 7 or an 11 during the come out roll. In this case if a two, three or a 12 are rolled you will lose. If the point is rolled the pass line bets are kept and the bettors will lose if the player rolls a seven. You can also choose the don’t pass bet, which is the exact opposite of the pass line bet. The come line bet is another that you need to know about. Come and Don’t Come bets are made after the point but they work the same way the pass line and don’t pass line bets.
Last but not least, there is the odds bet. This also occurs after the point is made. You can choose to bet on the point coming out before the seven does. The odds bet is actually the best bet that you can make at the craps table because the odds are on your side! Remember this when you are unsure of what to do next!
