Enforcement officials impose Supreme Court decision in further raids on internet gambling venues
 
Following the December 2012 declaration by the North Carolina Supreme Court that internet cafe sweepstakes style online gambling is illegal , enforcement officials around the state are continuing their blitz against suspected venues.
 
On Tuesday, Cumberland County deputies conducted a sweep on video gambling sweepstakes cafes still in operation, with the Fayetteville Observer reporting that teams of deputies went into the cafes, arresting the owners, issuing citations to players and seizing computers.
 
Despite protests by some operators that they had changed their business models and games in order to comply with the Supreme Court decision, sheriff's attorney Ronnie Mitchell said the law enforcement agencies have concluded they remain illegal.
 
Sweepstakes cafes have proliferated state-wide since the mid-2000s.
