New airline seat concept for gamblers and gamers is Not for Wimps

Prior to the recession, the innovative marketers at budget airline Ryanair were among the first to consider offering online gambling to high fliers using their services, but even they would have had difficulty visualising a new concept product due for unveiling this month at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.

The futuristic seat concept, branded Not For Wimps (NFW), has been created to give passengers of the future an intense and stimulating in-flight gaming or gambling experience.

Seat manufacturer Contour Aerospace teamed up with Factorydesign to produce a space-age but rather large prototype, which is both technologically advanced and reflects social changes in the way passengers want to spend their time during a flight. The design is currently at the concept stage but an example has been produced to prompt debate within the industry.

The futuristic seat features a flatscreen suspended on a curved overhead davit in front of the passenger, with speakers in the headrest or optional earphones.

Perhaps another concept on show has more likelihood of appearing on airlines any time soon – the Super Diamond luxury seating concept from B/E Aerospace, and its Pinnacle economy class equivalent has an integrated iPad on the back.
