Paf leaves Ongame’s network in Spain

Saturday February 16,2013 : FINNISH ONLINE POKER SITE TO SHUTTER SPANISH OPERATION

Short notice as Finland's Åland Penningautomatförening leaves Ongame's network in Spain

Åland Penningautomatförening (Paf), the Finnish online gambling operator, is to exit the Spanish online poker sector by February 25, the company has confirmed, saying it will close its internet poker room on the Ongame network.

Company spokesmen have emphasised that the shutdown applies only to online poker; Paf will continue to offer Spanish online punters sports betting, and may at some future stage reappear on the poker side, perhaps with a different site and network.

The company has not said why it is departing the Ongame network, but it is known that high taxation and the intensely competitive nature of the Spanish poker market has made life tough for the poker network, which launched in Spain in the middle of last year.

Once Paf has gone it will be reduced to just one operator.

With low player activity and only one operator, Ongame's future does not appear to be bright in Spain, where Pokerstars continues to dominate with a reported 70 percent market share.
