Sunday saw yet another virtual chip slinger grab a spot (valued at $17,500) on Team for the 2008 World Series of Poker, with a guaranteed top prize of entry fee, airfare, and hotel to the Main Event going to the player skillful and lucky enough to navigate the field of 39 players who turned out for the online finals.

While it’s an accomplishment to make the final table (shown below) , that’s when the real work begins, as far as playing your way down to the top spot:

Seat 1: Zockovic1 ($8,140 in chips)
Seat 2: HSchleicher ($24,409 in chips)
Seat 3: KristapsK3 ($24,624 in chips)
Seat 4: ashyp_1985 ($7,892 in chips)
Seat 5: DamnedToWin ($10,464 in chips)
Seat 6: 0racleJones ($7,307 in chips)
Seat 7: stigp1 ($7,786 in chips)
Seat 8: TheFishPiper ($16,938 in chips)
Seat 9: x crash154 ($5,924 in chips)
Seat 10: arcticfirefl ($3,516 in chips)

As is often the case, being the leader when the final table is reached isn’t always the best thing, as action can take many twists and turns, and when it was down to 3 players none of the early final table leaders were anywhere to be found:

Seat 4: ashyp_1985 ($48,095 in chips)
Seat 5: DamnedToWin ($62,009 in chips)
Seat 7: stigp1 ($6,896 in chips)

DamnedtoWin and ashyp_1985 had made the biggest move of the remaining players, and quickly got down to heads-up action when stigp1’s short stack was knocked out in 3rd ($293 + a ticket), with the following stacks when heads-up play began:

Seat 4: ashyp_1985 ($45,691 in chips)
Seat 5: DamnedToWin ($71,309 in chips)

ashyp_1985 quickly turned the tables, though, winning a huge hand when both players paired their ace but ashyp_1985’s better kicker played, giving him the hand and the lead of about 90,000 chips to DamnedToWin’s 30,000.

DamnedToWin would get as low as 20,000 chips before mounting a comeback, doubling up with QQ versus KQ and then winning another huge pot when his all-in shove on the turn was uncalled by his opponent, who folded and surrendered the hand.

With DamnedToWin back in control with about 100,000 chips to ashyp_1985 ‘s 20,000, the end came quickly. The players found themselves all-in pre-flop with ashyp_1985 holding Qh Tc and DamnedToWin Kc 6h.

The board of 4h Ks Ac Qc 3h would pair both players but DamnedToWin’s pair of kings was enough to take the pot and the victory, leaving ashyp_1985 in 2nd ($587 + a ticket) and just shy of a trip to the 2008 WSOP.
