Chinese player takes the Red Dragon honours…and $216,000.
 
Chinese player Zhenru Xie bested a talented entry field of 808 Wednesday to win the Pokerstars Macau Poker Cup 21 live main event. 108 finishers cashed from the HK$ 7,837,600 prize pool.
 
In addition to the $216,000 in first prize money, Xie was awarded an expensive Slyde Titanium watch and the prestigous Red Dragon trophy, last won by a Chinese national in 2012.
 
Down to the final table, Hu Liu held the biggest stack of well over 3 million chips, and the action was at once fast and furious, with the first elimination coming within minutes.
 
It did not take long for the game to reach the three-handed stage, where Zhenru Xie faced off against Japan’s Takuya Yamashita and Australian pro Mathew Ryan. Xie managed to oust Yamashita and the heads up was set, with Xie holding a 2 million chip lead over his Aussie opponent.
 
Despite a spirited fight, Ryan was unable to overcome his chip deficit and Xie took home the spoils of victory, leaving Ryan with the useful runner-up prize.
