POKERSTARS RESTRICTS DOT FR TO FRENCH PLAYERS ONLY

And NJDGE fines Amaya for geolocation failures.

Non-resident players on PokerStars France have been told they may no longer play on Pokerstars’ segregated French network from Monday 13 February 2017.

The customer email encourages affected players to continue their relationship with Pokerstars through its dot com or other licensed domains subject to local laws of the country in which they live.

Affected players can withdraw their real-money-account funds and unused T€ and/or Tournament Tickets will be converted into the equivalent cash value from February 13 onwards, the communication reads.

The development has been attributed to an organizational restructure.

In related news, parent company Amaya US Inc. has been fined $25,000 by the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) for geolocation failures on its PokerStars New Jersey website.

According to the DGE, intrastate gambling rules were violated as a result of a geolocation software “flaw” that allowed out of state customers to gamble on the PokerStarsNJ domain for a short period of time before a subsequent geolocation check detected and blocked them”.

PokerStars has since updated its software to address the flaw, the DGE points out.
