Republican political parties Still against online gambling

Wednesday August 29,2012 : REPUBLICAN MANIFESTO SPURNS ONLINE GAMBLING

Political party's negative position on internet gambling is still enshrined in its new policy document

With a presidential election looming later this year in the United States, the manifestos of the two main political parties are receiving close scrutiny by all manner of interested parties, and online gambling lobbyists are no exception.

The latest policy document issued by the Republican National Committee at the party's national convention in Florida this week indicates there has been little change in the party's official position on online gambling.

The document (see link below) is very specific in its opposition, declaring under "Making the Internet Family Friendly" :

"Millions of Americans suffer from problem or pathological gambling that can destroy families. We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet and call for reversal of the Justice Department’s decision distorting the formerly accepted meaning of the Wire Act that could open the door to Internet betting."
