German state issues more gambling permits
Wednesday August 29,2012 : SCHLESWIG HOLSTEIN ISSUES 5 MORE ONLINE GAMBLING LICENSES (Update)
Despite moves to repeal its regulatory law, German state issues more permits
The German province of Schleswig Holstein has brought the number of online gambling licenses it has issued to a round dozen with the approval of the latest five companies' applications.
888, Ladbrokes, two Admiral Sportswetten sites and Cashpoint Malta were the recipients Tuesday of sports betting licenses that expire on August 26 2018, making the legal position of the Schleswig Holstein coalition government more tenuous…and it is understood there are still at least another 22 or more applicants in the pipeline, two of which are currently suing the government for the delay.
The permits underpin an assurance by Interior Minister Andreas Breitner late last week that until the European Commission has approved the proposed law repealing the regulatory regime – a process that could take four or more months – SH is obliged to consider and act upon applications.
The regulatory authorities in SH have confirmed that they currently have 22 applications for sports betting licenses alone under active consideration.
“In addition 22 applicants are seeking a licence for online casino games such as poker and roulette,” a spokesman said Tuesday.
