PKR.com customer services manager bests 582 players in WSOP Europe event

Scott Shelley, a customer services manager with 3D online poker site PKR.com and an experienced online player outlasted a field of 582 competitors this week to win the GBP 1,000 buy-in World Series of Poker Europe event at London’s Empire Casino.

On home turf and supported by a vociferous home crowd, the 24 year old Londoner won his first World Series of Poker bracelet after beating defending champion and double bracelet winner JP Kelley heads up. The final hand saw both players move all in pre-flop with Shelley holding pocket threes against Kelly’s Queen-Jack. The race was all but over when Shelley hit a set on the flop.

"I can’t believe that I’ve won a bracelet and a six figure cheque!” said Shelley of his win, worth GBP 133 857 – a good return on the GBP 100 he invested to win his seat in a special PKR staff satellite that took place the previous week.

Shelly’s win was all the more remarkable given his heads up opponent. Widely recognised as one of the game’s premier young talents, Kelly was aiming for a place in the poker history books on several levels. A win would have made him one of the select few to win back-to-back World Series events, the first person to win two WSOPE bracelets and would also have seen him overtake the legendary Phil Ivey in becoming the youngest player to win three WSOP titles.

Malcolm Graham, CEO of PKR commented; “We’re all absolutely delighted for Scott, who’s been a hugely popular member of the PKR team. It genuinely couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”
