UFC Set To Open 2013 Schedule With UFC On FX 7

Wednesday January 16, 2013 : UFC Betting – UFC Set To Open 2013 Schedule With UFC On FX 7

The 2013 UFC  is set to open with the upcoming UFC on FX 7 event, live from the Ibarapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Although the card isn’t packed with big names and championship fights, there are a couple of bouts with big potential including a main event tilt between Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping. That main even middleweight fight is scheduled to go five rounds, and according to UFC President Dana White the winner will get a shot at Anderson Silva’s title. It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Silva was on hand to learn who his next opponent will be, and catch what should be a pretty solid card.

Coming off a loss to UFC Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones in a fight that he probably should have never had the chance to take, Belfort decided to return to the middleweight division where it was much more likely he would get another title shot. Whether or not he can compete with Silva is a story that will be addressed if and when he gets his shot, but for now Belfort will need to remain focused on a very dangerous opponent in Bisping. With five wins in his last six fights, Bisping has re-emerged as a legitimate contender in the UFC middleweight division, and could finally get his championship fight after seven long years. Both fighters have strong striking, but Bisping will have the advantage if he takes Belfort to the ground where his superior wrestling skills will be a major advantage.

That title shot fight will be preceded by another middleweight bout, as CB Dollaway clashes with Brazilian Daniel Sarafian in what could be the most lopsided bout on the card. Dollaway is coming off a win over Jim Miller but was less than impressive after going all of 2011 with a win, and Sarafian should have a major advantage as the favorite heading in to this tilt. Sarafian was the favorite to win TUF before an injury forced him off the show, and this contest will represent his shot at redemption in front of his home crowd.

Fans in Brazil will also get to see another of their hometown fighters in a heavyweight bout that most expect Gabriel Gonzaga to win, especially after he took care of Ednaldo Oliveira in the opening round of their UFC 142 fight via submission. Gonzaga will be favored to beat veteran Ben Rothwell  contest that should get the crowd in a frenzy, and it’s very clear that they tailored these fights to what the home fans want to see. The only other bout on the main card is between lightweight’s Thiago Tavares and Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the Brazilian should have the edge in that fight as well.
