UKRAINE TO RESTRICT PROBLEM GAMBLERS CIVIL RIGHTS

02/22/2012 :  UKRAINE TO RESTRICT PROBLEM GAMBLERS CIVIL RIGHTS

Amendment to Civil Code to safeguard compulsive gamblers income and/or property

340 of 413 Ukraine Parliament members voted in favour of limiting the civil rights of problem gamblers this week.

New amendments to the Civil Code identify a problem gambler as an individual spending the bulk of his income on gambling, selling his property for gambling or putting himself and relatives in a difficult financial position reports the UNIAN news agency.

Ukraine's Civil Code already carries restrictions on the rights of alcoholics and drug addicts.  The amendment will restrict compulsive gambler's rights to control their property and will make allowance for the allocation of custodians to monitor problem gamblers' spending habits.

Under the proposed amendments recovered problem gambler's can redeem themselves and have their civil rights restored by Ukraine courts.
