July 11,2012 : POKER SURVIVORS RETURN TO THE FRAY (Update)
WSOP survivors battle it out
The 2,044 combined survivors of the World Series of Poker main event Days 1 A and B reassembled Tuesday to continue the fight to remain in the competition, with William John holding the chip lead on 266,700. Unfortunately it was not to be his day, and he was eliminated by Mark Demirdjan as play progressed.
The action was hot and heavy, with only 900 surviving when play wrapped early Wednesday morning and the top ten chip counts going to:
Gaelle Baumann 505,800
Mark Demirdjian 499,900
Shaun Deeb 460,900
Gerard Lubas 449,500
Kevin Davis 394,000
Jan Kasten 391,800
Taylor Paur 391,600
Ronny Kaiser 379,600
Julio de la Rosa 350,700
Vanessa Selbst 350,400
Among the survivors are Daniel Negreanu, Pius Heinz, Peter Eastgate, Jerry Yang, Dan Harrington, Robert Varkonyi, Eugene Katchalov, Maria Ho, Gavin Smith, Amnon Filippi, Mike McDonald, Sammy Farha, Brock Parker, Jackie Glazier, David Pham, Gabe Kaplan, Kevin Pollak, Brian Hastings, Eric Baldwin and Faraz Jaka.
This year's main event competition continued to take its toll of big names, with Justin Bonomo, Tony Dunst, Darvin Moon, David Williams, Mike Sexton, Erik Seidel, Brian Rast, Isaac Haxton, Chad Brown, Jeffrey Lisandro, Mike Matusow, Martin Staszko, Scott Seiver and Billy Baxter all heading disconsolately for the exit..
Those remaining have Wednesday free as the survivors of Day 1C battle it out in Day 2C, with all of the survivors from the two Day 2s combining at noon Thursday local time into one field for Day 3.
In related news, one of the last standard events, the WSOP National Championship 2012 reached a final table Tuesday.
The $10,000 buy-in event attracted an entry field of 157, generating a prize pool of $1,570,000, which implies a very worthwhile first prize of $416,051.
When we went to press play for the day was over, with the final table set at:
