Toby Lewis wins European Poker Tour Vilamoura, Portugal
Euro 467 000 a healthy return on Euro 5 350 buy-in
The European Poker Tour stop in Vilamoura, Portugal ended this week in a lucrative victory for 20-year-old Brit player Toby Lewis, who scored an impressive return of Euro 467 000 on his buy-in of Euro 5 350.
Lewis faced a final table that comprised Sweden's Martin Jacobson, fellow Brits Sam Trickett and ex-football hero Teddy Sheringham, Jason Lee from the USA, Frederik Jansen of Denmark, Rob Hollink from the Nethgerlands and local Portuguese player Sergio Coutinho at the end ofthe three day tournament.
In the final clash Lewis faced Martin Jacobson (23) in the heads up, which made for a exciting game, albeit a relatively brief one in which the British player triumphed to take the honours and the top money. Jacobson had to be content with the still impressive runner up prize of Euro 297,985.
"This title means a lot to me," Lewis told match officials. "I was disappointed not to win IPT Venice [he finished seventh - Ed.], but this means even more. It wasn’t easy – Martin was a very hard player to beat.”
