Gambling Operators on Forbes 100 Richest Tech Billionaires
GAMBLING TYCOONS MAKE FORBES TECH BILLIONAIRES LIST
Some familiar names included in inaugural list.
Forbes has released its inaugural 100 Richest Tech Billionaires From Around The Globe List 2015 and it includes some familiar names.
One of only seven women who made the list, Bet365’s Denise Coates came in at No. 71 with a fortune of $2.9 Billion. She also took 737th place on the World’s Billionaire’s list. Brother John Coates, who holds a smaller stake in the business, is also a billionaire but his estimated worth was not big enough to make the Tech list.
43-Year-old Playtech billionaire Teddy Sagi took the 51st spot on the tech list with an estimated $3.3 billion.
Mark Scheinberg of Rational Group’s PokerStars and Full Tilt fame was placed 56th richest in tech amassing a whopping $4.1 Billion.
Forbes used stock prices from July 31, 2015 to compile the list, choosing to exclude telecom and media in its definition of technology.
The list comprises people who are active in hardware, software, social media, online gambling, and high-tech manufacturing.
Other interesting snippets include : The top 100 being mostly American and living in California.
The average age of the group is 53, a decade younger than the average age of all billionaires.
15 of the top 100 are under 40, the youngest, Evan Spiegel of Snapchat, is 25 and worth an estimated $2.1 billion.
94 of the 100 Tech billionaires are self made, 3 have actively expanded inheritances and the other 3 inherited their fortunes.
The U.S. and Asia lead in terms of the number of billionaires per region, 51 hail from the U.S. (40 of those reside in California), 33 from Asia and just 8 from Europe.
While impressive, online gambling’s Tech billionaires still lie some way off the likes of Bill Gates who, with a staggering net worth of $79.6 billion, heads the list.
In total, the world’s 100 richest tech billionaires are estimated to be worth $842.9 billion, Forbes said.
