Sunday Million Winner Loses It All

Saturday October 8, 2011 : It can be dangerous playing with the big dogs

Tough tale of the week comes from the Pokerstars internet high stakes tables.

Russian online poker player 17AXA experienced the euphoria of a major win on the Pokerstars Sunday Million earlier this week, but lost almost all of it barely three days later when he tangled with the big dogs on the high stakes tables at the same site.

The Russian's sad losses were perhaps a reminder that poker is a game of both chance and skill, and you had better be pretty good if you intend to mix it up with some of the top players in the game who regularly congregate on Pokerstars‘ virtual high stakes tables.

The unfortunate Russian started out Wednesday with an almost $150 000 bankroll, the proceeds of his successful showing in the regular Sunday Millions tournament.

Perhaps inspired by his own recent success, 17AXA went for the nosebleed $5 000 sit and go tables, where he was welcomed by a slew of hungry aces.

After taking serious losses but for one brief peak, the unfortunate player had to gradually ratchet down his action over a long and sobering session until he was struggling on the $30 tournament tables.

It was an expensive lesson, leaving him with barely $8 000 from an initially fat bankroll.
