Poker Stars Gets Estonian Online Gambling Licence

Online poker room set for expansion

The world's largest internet poker room, Pokerstars.ee, has been awarded an operational licence for internet poker by the Baltic nation of Estonia, taking its previously granted activity licence up a level.

The licence positions Pokerstars among the first to legally offer internet poker within Estonia. The new dedicated Pokerstars site – PokerStars.ee – complies fully with Estonian law, says Michael Holmberg, director of marketing for the Baltic and Nordic region.

"There are thousands of good poker players in Estonia," said Holmberg. "PokerStars has been the most popular poker room among Estonian players for several years, and with the licensing system now put in place, I am convinced the country shows the way for many other EU nations in terms of regulation."

PokerStars' latest operational licence in Estonia follows other successful approvals in Italy and France. PokerStars.it launched in October 2008, and PokerStars.fr was granted a licence in June 2010. The company also holds an international licence from the Isle of Man, where it is headquartered.
