Online gambling industry contributed GBP50 million to Guernsey

6/29/10 – According to the BBC, investing in becoming an online gambling licensing jurisdiction has been a smart move for the small island of Guernsey off the French coast in the Channel Isles.

An independent study by the respected international businesses services group KPMG has shown that the internet gambling industry contributed GBP50 million to the Bailiwick of Guernsey's economy in 2009.

KPMG reported that the figure has risen from about GBP7 million in 2007, and predicted that further growth of over 40 percent is on the cards over the next two years.

Carla McNulty-Bauer, Guernsey's Commerce and Employment minister, said the industry has also extended the range of jobs available for the local workforce.
