Miha Travnik Wins WPT Slovenia

Sunday July 24,2011 : $144,400 and benefits for local player

The second tournament in the tenth and current edition of the World Poker Tour – a Euro 3 000 main event in Slovenia – is over, with local professional Miha Travnik (20) taking the honours after a robust heads up with second placed Vincenzo Natale of Italy.

Travnik's payday was a Euro 84,500 ($144,400) check, a trophy and a $25 000 sponsorship to the 2012 WPT Championship at Bellagio in Las Vegas, NV.

Playing an audacious and aggressive game, Travnik overcame several low chip counts to dominate an exciting and dynamic seven-hour final table that comprised Vincenzo Natale, Swedish player Johannes Korsar, Ferdi Ciorabai of Romania, and Italians Gaetano Fortugno and Marcello Marigliano.

In the fast and furious heads up against Natale, the chip lead changed several times, and the Slovenian looked set to fail on a number of occasions, but always managed to stage a comeback against his more experienced opponent. Eventually Travnik managed to turn the comeback into a sustained lead and took the match when his A-J held up against Natale's K-8.

The WPT Slovenia attracted a field of 141 entrants despite the Euro 3,000 buy-in, which ensured that the top 14 survivors all cashed. Natale's runner up prize was a useful Euro 70,700.
