Pakistani Internet Firm Sued By Pinnacle Entertainment
5/24/10 – One Sultan Shafique, an individual associated with a Pakistani casino information website titled Belterra Casino.info has been named in a trademark infringement action filed in the Nevada District Court this week by Vegas gambling giant Pinnacle Entertainment.
Court Case Number: 2:10-cv-00751-KJD-LRL 15:1114 has been assigned to Judge Kent J. Dawson and Magistrate Judge Lawrence R. Leavitt, and cites an Internet firm in Pakistan titled Eskay SEO, which allegedly owns the offending website.
The site promotes Pinnacle's Indiana land casino Belterra, apparently without the owner's consent, reporting: "One can feel never feel boring because there are multiple things to do here at Belterra Casino Indiana."
According to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, the Pakistani site links to an online casino, which in turn has a section promoting Harrah's Entertainment Inc.'s Rio hotel-casino in Las Vegas.
Pinnacle legal representatives claim the Belterra website infringes on its trademarks for the Belterra Casino Resort & Spa, a well-known resort hotel casino in Florence, Indiana
Pinnacle also complained the defendants' Belterra website wrongly suggests that it's sponsored by Pinnacle.
The Las Vegas gambling group is asking for a court order requiring that the offending domain name be transferred to Pinnacle and alleges counts of cybersquatting, trademark infringement, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices.
