$574,988 in latest disclosures

Mandatory disclosures of political lobbying investments show that on April 13 the American Gaming Association – a trade body for land-based US operators – filed a report detailing $574,988.17 in lobbying expenses with the House of Assembly's clerk.

Associated Press reports that this amount is $145,011.59 more than the organisation spent a year ago in the same quarter, and is $171,190.16 more than it spent during the fourth quarter of 2010.

Issues lobbied included internet gambling, visa reform issues, and off-reservation gaming.

Last month the AGA held a news conference in Washington, D.C.  in which AGA CEO Frank Fahrenkopf; Keith Smith, president of Boyd Gaming; Gordon Kanofsky, CEO of Ameristar Casinos; and Virginia McDowell, president of Isle of Capri Casinos appeared, promoting the concept of properly licensed and regulated online poker at federal level.

“The millions of American who are playing poker online deserve to know they are playing safely with law-abiding operators,” Fahrenkopf said during the news conference.

The executives revealed that gaming leaders would be meeting with congressmen and White House officials on the subject of regulation of online poker going forward.
